Rhizome by Matali Crasset for Arturo Alvarez

May 17th, 2011 by retail design blog

‘Rhizome’ is a pendant lamp designed by paris-based Matali Crasset for spanish brand Arturo Alvarez. Made from a single sheet of metal, the lamp’s form draws on that of a rhizomatic composition. Following the outline of mobile systems, both the structure and all of its suspended elements are complementary shapes.

A waterfall shape is created, starting from a central spot, with the hanging components branching outwards as a means of defracting light. the source of illumination is protected at the core by a clutter of suspended shapes, in which light is diverted through white panels. The endings of the lamps are colored in either silver or yellow.
