BOZAR BRASSERIE
Architect: Barbara van der Wee Arch.
Merchant: David Martin & Philippe Collonval
Type: restaurant – brasserie
Address: rue Ravenstein 23 – Brussels
District: Mont des Arts/ Kunstberg

Often announced and often postponed, the restaurant at the Centre for Fine Arts finally opened in December 2010. At the helm will be one of today’s leading chefs – David Martin, whose brasserie in Anderlecht, La Paix, is the proud possessor of a Michelin star. It has been a long wait since the old Brasserie des Beaux-Arts, looking onto rue Baron Hortastraat, closed down: ten whole years.
The BOZAR BRASSERIE is the most eye-catching element of an ambitious, faithful restoration project that marks a further stage in the implementation of the master plan for the general renovation of Horta’s masterpiece, which has been under way for a decade now. The aim is to restore the building to its glory of 1928, when the Centre was inaugurated, while incorporating all the technical resources required to satisfy today’s standards and tastes. In the case of the restaurant, the task was facilitated by the existence of an excellent photograph of the original brasserie and of vestiges that made it possible to recover Horta’s design.

The Commerce Design Award has been launched in Montreal (Canada) in 1995 in order to stimulate local merchants to invest in the furnishing of their commercial spaces with the assistance of a qualified professional. The initiative spread immediately to cities all over the world (Saint-Etienne, Marseille, Lyon, Nantes, Luxemburg, Eindhoven, …) among which our own capital that celebrates this year the second edition of the Commerce Design Brussels competition, coordinated by Pro Materia and Design September (with the support of the City of Montreal, Brussels Capital Region, Atrium, Brussels Louise and institutional and private partners).
