Jakarta-based designer Alvin Tjitrowirjo of alvinT studio has completed ‘Porterhouse’, a contemporary fusion restaurant located in Pantai Indah Kapuk, Indonesia. the 592 meter square dining establishment is situated in a 2-storey ‘shop-house’ building to create a casual and communal atmosphere.

The layout is segmented by see-through frames and trellises where the outdoor area is fitted with several large cushioned benches. The semi-private dining areas on the second floor are enclosed with antique door and window frames to lend intimacy and privacy to the space. Long wooden tables are placed to enhance communal gatherings with modern rattan chairs.

The interior design adopted a locavore approach where most of the materials used in the restaurant were upcycled items sourced from all over Java. many of the furniture pieces were created specifically for the project, capturing the island’s artisanal culture of one-of-a-kind customization.

The window trellises act as a geometric wall feature and room divider were taken from antique javanese houses, where the contemporary patterns on the cushions are batik-stamped by hand. all these elements come together to create a progressive fell that reflects the modern indonesian identity.
