After graduating from the Royal College or Art and Design in London, Weston Surman & Deane Architecture were asked to redesign the school’s student union café. The primary architectural driver was to insert warmth into the existing stark concrete and steel building. Timber was used extensively, from the kitchen, shelving and tables which were fashioned entirely from ripped and refined scaffolding boards, to the reclaimed parquet flooring.
