For the Coach flagship store in Omotesando, Tokyo, OMA designed a façade of interlocking acrylic display units with a logic that translates to the interior. For the façade, each display unit measures 1800mm by 520mm and is stacked horizontally and vertically in a herringbone pattern. The units frame individual items like bags, busts or mannequins, making each appear precious.

The façade design continues from floor to ceiling over both levels of the store, presenting the entire corner of the building it occupies with the same treatment. The translucency of the acrylic panels gives a glowing effect at night.

Inside the store, OMA designed a central core of acrylic blocks that complements the façade. This, seen together with the façade blocks, layers views of merchandise with those of the streets beyond, uniting inside and out.
