FAK3 have been commissioned to design a series of experimental luxury boutiques for ‘Erno Laszlo’ in Hong Kong and China, who are pioneers of exclusive skincare, treating the likes of renowned icons such as Audrey Hepburn, Duchess of Windsor, Greta Garbo, Hubert de Givenchy.

FAK3 were allowed total freedom, in creating a new and refreshed retail identity, and one of the first design moves was to explore ‘Erno Laszlo’s the rich brand history and to configure a new shopping experience.

‘Our design approach was to innovate and move away from the industries generic retail template. We have developed an environment, which is bespoke, sculptural and fluid. The new ‘Erno Laszlo’ shops are made up of hand crafted sculptural corian pieces that are juxtaposed against polished black striated marble flooring and a tinted black mirror steal ceiling. The black and white palette and organic forms create a high contrast iconic space, differentiating the brand clearly from the other brands’ – Johnny Wong & Miho Hirabayashi

Johnny Wong and Miho Hirabayashi created an iconic branded retail concept, which blurred handcrafted and computer generated modeling to create a collection of fluid white sculptural forms. This formal style they have coined ‘Liquid Baroque’, as signature pieces for the new retail expansion for Hong Kong, China and Taiwan.

‘Within the project Luxury is defined trough the explorative design process and elegant articulation of fluid form. Conceptually the Corian sculptures are like white liquid waves, with Erno Laszlos products sitting on top to visually make them float.’ – Johnny Wong & Miho Hirabayashi

Fluid forms flow and are uniquely defined by context of each site, this is further referenced by movement and optimized display creating a different experience for each store.
