Axor Waterdream installation by Front Design

The collaboration between Axor (the designer brand of Hansgrohe) and the Stockholm-based trio Front Design led to an intriguing installation, recently unveiled at Axor headquarters in the Black Forest. Swedish trio Sofia Lagerkvist, Charlotte von der Lancken and Anna Lindgren took on the challenge of rethinking the human interaction with water and space and came up with a daring concept.

By exploring the technical origins of the water installation, the girls at Front materialized a true water labyrinth, with copper pipes, elbow fittings and three “archetypal” shower heads: “Front shows how something that is normally hidden from view can become a visually appealing and valued spatial construct,” says Philippe Grohe. “We used our personal perception of the shower and showering to draw attention to the technology behind the wall, which is often concealed,” explains Charlotte von der Lancken.

“It was important for us to foster an awareness of what is the most archetypal aspect of the bathroom – the installation itself. For this reason, we played around with the most elementary components that are used to bring water to us – pipes, valves, couplings, and funnels,” adds Sofia Lagerkvist. Freshome also covered the unveiling of the installation designed by Nendo, as part of the same event.
