Indian architects and interior designers, Hiren Patel Architects, have designed the Corporate Office project. Completed in 2011, the contemporary office can be found in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. “A leading developer group in real estate and infrastructure across in wanted a techno-savvy outfit for a corporate head office; keeping in mind the status and position of the company.

We realized that though the different departments had to get a distinct visual identity, they had to be physically connected to each other. So we regrouped our thoughts and reprogrammed the design brief. Also the client needed an imposing building – more like a ‘statement’ expressing the strength and solidarity of the group.

“The first decision was to make a single long building with wide steps; the latter conveying a sense of grandeur as well as a warm welcome. Thus one accessed the building at the first floor level. The entrance foyer and meeting areas are centrally located; thereby creating distinct north and south wings for accommodating the functions of different departments, and yet keeping the connection all throughout. Based on this concept, the actual furniture layout started developing.

Thus the floor plate got refined in terms of size and structure. Landscape design was also an important factor for the overall ambience inside the office as well as the qualities conveyed through the façade. As the front and side margins are relatively tight, the façade was looking rather harsh. Appropriate landscaping has helped to soften the impact. The terrace gardens, floating projections created for frangipani trees and weather shed projections are the different elements that comprise the total landscaping of the project.

“The inner spaces at all levels have views of the greenery outside; while strategically placed and carefully picked up indoor plants help integrate the greenery into the working areas too. The success of the project lies in the fact that client’s brief is totally justified. The head office for one of the city’s leading property developers adequately guides visitors’ perceptions; creating in their minds an impression of the firm being professional and transparent.”
