It was in 1964 that British designer Terence Conran opened his first Habitat store on London’s Fulham road, introducing a new approach towards design for the home to a wide audience. Only a few years later habitat expanded to France where it has become equally successful with its accessible designs, and now operates 25 stores.

And it’s in Paris, almost 50 years later, where Habitat opens up an interesting vintage design and fahion concept on sat – jun 8. called Habitat 1964, it’s located smack in the middle of the St.-Ouen flea market on the northern outskirts of the French capital and occupies a rather vast industrial complex of no less than 25,000 sqm. [269,098 sq.ft.]. Habitat will be the anchor tenant and has teamed up with high-end fashion retailer l’Éclaireur for the launch of this retail project, which initially opens up just a part of the premises.

While the first exhibits carefully sourced furniture pieces and homewares from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s in a spacious warehouse, the latter occupies a separate building, showcasing apparel items and accessories from its very own contemporary fashion archives, in addition to pieces from merging designers and select design objects. But that’s not all, folks! And when the vintage shopping and browsing starts to take its toll, la Buvette comes to the rescue. Housed in a cutesy white brick building, this café has a fresh, modern setting and serves a range of tasty cakes and beverages. An outdoor terrace is readily available when the sun is out.
