Christian Louboutin has opened a second standalone boutique in Tokyo, and this one is in the leafy Aoyama district. Bigger than the initial store in the Ginza district, it occupies a two-storey modern building which also accommodates the brand’s Japan headquarters and showroom. The retail space is situated on the ground floor and features an interior designed by the french Luxur Cobbler, in collab with New York-based practice 212box.

Christian Louboutin stores are known to ooze a quirky luxe setting all its own, and this boutique is no exception. High on glam – after all, this is Aoyama… – reflective surfaces are key in the design, with light and shadow skillfully deployed to give each area a distinctive look. Adding up to a tantalizing shopping experience are an eclectic series of settings which ooze sophistication, blending a richness in fabrics, materials and styles.

There are walls fabricated from a colourful patchwork of reclaimed New England tin tiles, two-way mirrors and travertine stone tiles arranged in fluid patterns which extend into the men’s area. And although the aesthetic here is different, it’s still wildly imaginative. Circular spiked floating display shelves are placed onto the aforementioned soft grey tiles, juxtaposed with a pleated leather paneled wall and exotic tiikeri shelving. The boutique is further furnished with various exquisite objects from across the planet that have been hand-picked by Christian Louboutin himself as a nod to his love for travel and craftsmanship. The new Christian Louboutin boutique carries the brand’s full range of women’s and men’s shoes.
