Pho Dau Bo is a growing chain of Vietnamese restaurants in Southern Ontario. Their newest location was designed around a concept based on elements of the Vietnamese culture. The restaurant’s bold black and white colour palette is softened by various warmer elements throughout the space. The centre of the restaurant features a grouping of gold pendants hung on a dropped ceiling that is first seen on entering the restaurant. The colour of the lighting fixtures was inspired by those of a freshly harvested rice field, in reference back to one of their main dishes.

Sleek modern chairs were chosen for the restaurant’s lounge area and were contrast by rustic wood coffee tables. The tables were a custom design by a local company, Time & Texture. They were finished in an oil rub to preserve the raw look of the wood, while allowing durability. The lounge area also features a 3D metal wall art as a backdrop. The art was inspired by chopsticks and was custom made by a local welding shop and finished in a flat black.

The overall look of the restaurant was kept minimalistic to reflect traditional asian interiors. Faux brick walls were installed throughout the space and finished in either white or charcoal. Not only did this add great depth and texture to the space, but it was also a great way to fill up wall space without it being overwhelming.
