California based Dutch designer Sander Bakker has been commissioned by NOBU restaurants to develop the Kiem table lamp. Following the Kickstarter launch of the Blom table lamp earlier this year, SplinterSeed was asked by NOBU hospitality to develop and produce a new and unique table lamp. NOBU is one of the world’s most recognized restaurants, known for its exquisite Japanese cuisine and celebrity owner Robert de Niro. From the designer: “Needless to say we were very excited to be asked to develop a lamp for NOBU’s newest project; a restaurant and hotel in Manila, Philipines (“City of Dreams”) due to open next month. Meeting the tight deadline without losing sight of the quality of the design has been a very interesting challenge. It is our very first commission, and we are extremely proud of the result.” SB Kiem /kēm/

Kiem is a hospitality grade cordless table lamp, commissioned by NOBU restaurants. The design is derived from the original Blom table lamp, which is based on natural growth. However, it has been shrunken to fit unobtrusively on a restaurant table. In addition, it features a base cut out of a solid piece of North American Black Walnut wood. The inside of the lamp has been engineered to be splash water proof, and can therefore be used in- or outdoors. Kiem is manufactured at SplinterSeed’s studio in California, as are all their designs. It comes fully assembled.

The light source is provided by Hokare Ltd., a leader in the field of cordless hospitality lighting. Kiem uses their top of the line Lithium-Ion powered LED light, which can provide up to 48 hours of pleasantly warm light on a single charge. A multi color light source is also available, along with a range of custom designed professional charging solutions.
Product Data: The white shade part of Kiem is made out of High Density Polyethylene, a common and recyclable plastic (recycling code #2). The base is cut out of a solid piece of North American Black Walnut. A precision machined aluminum ring locks the shade to its Lithium-Ion powered light source.
