In preparation of tiff 2014, Charles Khabouth- CEO of INK Entertainment and Oliver and Bonacini restaurants planned a complete re-design and renovation of the restaurant Stock located on the 31st floor of the downtown Trump tower hotel and residences. Khabouth explained the “idea behind the restaurant was to create a much more social scene, a much more interactive scene,” all in the new bold theme of America Restaurant.

The goal: Create a lush environment for the upcoming tiff gala dinner, official after parties and press conferences. The design challange: The project had to be completed within 5 days of the festival from start to finish and the process would have to be flawless. Along with hundreds of custom furniture pieces, VISO, a local decorative light designer and manufacturer created the custom lighting for the space. Under the time constraints, there was pressure for all parties involved to deliver. Filipe Lisboa, CEO and head designer at VISO explained: “the VISO team really came together and worked around the clock to deliver and install the custom lights”.

The design solution: Custom lighting was a very significant part of the project. Khabouth asserts: “Lighting is very important, it needs to make you want to stay.” And so it was, that these lights would be round pendants made of soft black fabric with white fabric diffusers hung from the 25’ foot ceiling on articulating black metal arms. The beauty of these articulating arms is that the entire installation of lights is adjustable. Every light can be faced upwards, downwards and rotated in any direction. What’s even more unique and intriguing to the eye is that the arms are different lengths, which creates a field of pop art lights.

The fixtures also have LED lamping that can change colour and be dimmed to give maximal control over the mood of America. “We were all very pleased with the result.” –Lisboa stated.
