Nestled in the courtyard of Comme Des Garcon’s Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré store in Paris, Studio Dessuant Bone has designed ‘Honor’, an outdoor independent specialty coffee shop. Studio Dessuant Bone, has designed the kiosk space along with bespoke furniture and a tailored visual identity. Studio Dessuant Bone, multi-disciplinary creative studio based in Paris, was approached by coffee specialists and founders Daniel and Angelle Warburton to transform Comme Des Garcon’s courtyard into an outdoor cafe space that would change the cafe landscape within the area and create a unique, creative and enjoyable experience.

Studio Dessuant Bone’s global approach was driven by creating a visual language reflecting the pride and celebration of making craft coffee within a subtle understanding and integration of the historical and geographical environment. The kiosque facades can be easily removed in order to create various configurations according to the weather conditions. The facades once removed create architectural interests within the space furthering the design language.

Understanding the importance to create a space that celebrated the coffee making process and the hospitality, Studio Dessuant Bone has divided the space in three distinct areas, with an open coffee making/serving area, a raised and covered communal seating area behind the working area allowing the customer to engage in a unique perspective of the process and a bar seating area with bar stools for those that want a quick hit of coffee.

The design of the space is voluntary opened and the roof is transparent in order to keep the feeling of being outside by achieving the maximum amount of natural light during the day. The black and white stained wood emphasise the natural and warm aesthetic of the kiosk exposing the wood grain. The metal bar is symbolic of materials you find in workshops and highlights the craft behind making artisan coffee.

When creating the visual identity for Honor there was a clear approach that it must complement the space, and be executed subtlety. The logo focuses on the idea of pride, passion & honor in the coffee making process and plays on the idea of being part of a team or movement with its minimalist crest form. We have also kept in mind the application of the logo. It was imperative that the logo could be applied to packaging in the form of a stamp. Honor was constructed by Parisian carpenters Epi studio and Jona Menuiserie. Bespoke furniture by Toulouse based cabinetmaker Le Nouvel Atelier.
