James Richardson is an Australian retail corporation that specializes in duty free shops. As early as 2004, in the course of the new opening of his spaces at the Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv, Israel, James Richardson brought Umdasch Shopfitting on board. Ten years later, the 3,000 square-meter duty fee area was relaunched.
Like no other airport of this size, Ben Gurion has to handle as many as two million passengers per month in July and August. The high visitor numbers make high logistical demands on James Richardson’s duty free shop. For example, Umdasch Shopfitting developed 54 check-out counters with multiscreen walls; in front, three queuing lines allow for easy customer service. Focus points are info screens integrated into gondolas, whose black lacquered surfaces place the range of products in the foreground. The ceiling, designed by Umdasch Shopfitting, functions as an intuitive orientation system for visitors.
