Since sake is the best medicine, a Japanese restaurant is treated with a gilded stream of the libation. An extension of the Twenty-First Century Hotel, the ground floor entrance of MANZO Liang Ma Qiao is encased with wooden louvers which pass the threshold to pervade the sake-serving restaurant’s interior. Leading Beijing-based firm Tsutsumi & Associates, Japanese architect Yoshimasa Tsutsumi makes it rain to formulate a dynamic dining atmosphere for the predominantly stationary experience.

The locale’s specialty is expressed with a spatial gesture of a flowing waterfall. A ceiling of staggered struts drips into a stream of stick LED lamps for a layered cascade. Opposite the dining hall, VIP rooms are enclosed with a black acrylic wall frosted with an abstract Shanshuihua print. Emphasised with illumination, the gradation conjures the imagery of a hazy mist from the sake cascade.
