Kinetic sculpture for CENTRESTAGE by C7DESIGN Studio, Hong Kong

CENTRESTAGE is Hong Kong’s brand new fashion event, aiming to provide a launch pad for International and Asian fashion brands and designers to present their collections. The four-day event has gathered some 200 fashion brands from 20 countries and regions, with some of the hottest rising stars in Asia showcasing their latest collections for Fall/Winter 2017.

C7DESIGN was commissioned to support the event with and creative direction for the main hall. To present Hiromichi Ochiai’s future thinking fashion brand Facetasm, we have designed a kinetic sculpture inspired by the movement of bird wings.

The concept is to create a futuristic robotic movement while the audience just stepped into the hall. Playing on the notion that the Brand name Facetasm is a coined word of “facet”, the 4 meter spanning art installation took on a distinctive aesthetic expression.

The gear wheel rotates in almost perpetual motion along its own axis translating the horizontal movement into a steady stream of permanent up and down flow of the side wings. It consists of 85 parts and made by aluminum sheets. We also concerned it is aesthetically attractive to watch the movement from different angle that has seen tremendously positive reactions from the audience.
