Manolo Blahnik store by Nick Leith-Smith, Moscow – Russia

December 14th, 2016 by retail design blog

The latest Manolo Blahnik retail offering in Moscow, designed by Nick Leith-Smith Architecture + Design, occupies a 55 square metre plot on the second floor of the prestigious Vesna Shopping Centre. The design is a thoughtful evolution of the original concept implemented at the celebrated flagship store in the Tretiakov Plaza Store.

A store of contrast, the romantic yet rustic Dacha cottage architecture is revisited here through the grey vertical wood clad interior. This texture is complemented by the white delicateness of lace captured in laser cut Corian panels which enhances the nostalgic theme of the Dacha.

In Russian, lace or kruzhevo means ‘to encircle’, a process which initiated the design response to the preferably private shoe emporium. Through the tantalising gaps in the floral inspired Corian façade, glimpses of a discreet and restrained chamber can be gathered. The forest like verticality of the timber cladding and geometric step detail framing the mirrors provide contrast to the whimsical Corian.

This layer of juxtaposition is further accentuated with the use of stark black shelving niches with powder coated black steel shelves and display tables that punctuate the interior.

The calm monochromatic scheme is brought to life across a diverse selection of materials including a white marble floor, deep pile rug, button detailed upholstery and grey painted panelling. Brushed brass details and gilt shoe presentation stands help to lift the scheme adding a level of extravagance for the luxury brand.
