The beach installation by Snarkitecture, Milan – Italy

First presented in Washington D.C. in 2015, The beach is a whimsical, much-publicized installation by Snarkitecture, a New York City-based creative practice known for its quirky exploration of the boundaries between art and architecture. Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, renowned concept store Colette pulls out all the stops to make it a memorable event, and one the highlights undoubtedly is the site-specific recreation of The beach a stone’s throw away at Musée des Arts Décoratifs.

Opening today, and on display for only the six coming days at the ornate Venue’s nave, it’s a fun-infused and interactive affair that’s to be enjoyed by all ages. An elongated basin has been erected, filled with over 300,000 translucent balls crafted from recycled plastic. The monochrome installation is furnished with props that mimic insouciant summer days by the Beach, including prerequisite beach chairs and parasols, while a handful of inflatable toys provide a colourful contrast.
