One of the best things a person can do for their health is drink plenty of water, and the COHO water containers by product designer Atil Kizilbayir seek to extend these benefits further. The objects are actually finished in copper, a trace mineral known to be an essential nutrient for humans. In fact, its natural antioxidant properties help to cleanse one’s body — from killing cancer cells to weight loss, slowing down aging, balancing hormones and much more. Copper has also long been known to have antimicrobial benefits and is used in drinking water treatment and transportation.

The COHO water container set by Atil Kizilbayir includes a carafe and mug to serve and drink water — with both pieces made entirely by hand and with 100% copper. The jug has a simplistic design and is completed with a ribbed top for additional dexterity while the mug is compact for easy storage and portability. The set comes in three classic styles: artisan (shine copper), matte (brushed copper) and antique (worn copper).

Further research shows that copper has been recognized by the American Environmental Protection Agency as the first metallic antimicrobial agent in 2008. on the other hand, a team led by a scientist at the department of energy from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley lab) and at UC Berkeley has found that copper plays a key role in metabolizing fat. Finally, copper is important for the synthesis of phospholipids, which help in the development and protection of the brain by forming myelin sheaths over neurons in the brain.
