Studio DiDeA has completed Tritalo, a chic hamburger restaurant in the historic Palermo downtown city. The architects have converted a small former clothes shop – 38 square meters – making it special by the unveiling, during the refurbishment works, of some frescoes dating back to the late Nineteenth Century.

“By removing a series of overtime stratified layouts, we’ve surprisingly discovered amazing frescoes that we included and turned into distinctive and unexpected elements of the project. And now they are perfectly visible as a strong feature of this place” explain the architects.

Due to the rather narrow space and its very high ceilings, DiDeA has inserted a very essential volume containing all the services (counter, kitchen, toilets) so as to optimize and exploit the place and not to interfere with the vaulted ceilings.

To emphasize the warmth, DiDeA has chosen a very particular colour palette featuring gold rose accents over a white board, enhancing the fancy minimalism of the room. “Our project goal was to meet client’s request by designing a project that stands out and distinguishes from the predominant industrial style of many bistrot”.

The volume is lightened by the open and suspended structure that defines the counter, lit up from simple hanging bulbs. Over the lower part of the volume white wooden tiles cladding with a french herringbone pattern accentuate the dazzling brightness of the room, continuing the light chromaticity of the gres tiles covering the floor.

Gold rose iron is the leitmotif of the project, played as material and nuance of each details of it: defines the geometry, upholsters the countertop, becomes tubular footsteps and then repurposed in the spherical chandeliers and toilets door handles. Minimal white iron stools serve as seating.
