Aluminium Backpack from Solid Gray

October 23rd, 2017 by retail design blog

Solid Gray is the brainchild of the designers Herman Lijmbach and Jasper de Leeuw. We believe in creating new things. In innovative products that outshine today’s standards by being like nothing else. Highly original. Highly functional. It’s what we call breaking the ordinary. The original Solid Gray backpack is super strong and lightweight. It is made for demanding daily travellers, using an innovative combination of form and material.

Solid Gray’s light, strong and durable hardshell is made from a cleverly folded, hi-tech polymer sheet using a minimal amount of material. Solid Gray is designed with a simple goal in mind: to protect the valuable items you carry with you, day in day out. Solid Gray products are made in the Netherlands. They’re made to last a lifetime, but fit for recycling after years of service. Welcome to the future.

The first run of Solid Gray backpacks sold out within a month, sparked by a storm of on- and offline media coverage. This initial success was followed by appearances in national newspapers and international magazines including Penthouse, Playstation Magazine and WIRED. Since then Solid Gray has found it’s way into a design museum, books, events, advertising campaigns, TV shows, Blockbuster movies, music videos, opera… and the list continues to grow.

Solid Gray stands for eye-catching products. But, Solid Gray is so much more than meets the eye! Thanks to the support of enthousiastic customers in over 50 countries Solid Gray has developed into a thriving brand. Solid Gray continues to extend the brand with new additions to the collection.

At Solid Gray we believe in the strength of synergetic collaborations with a wide range of partners to increase mutual visibility. From design, to technology, to music, press, events, art, fashion and much more: we partner in breaking the ordinary. We enjoy setting up not-so-ordinary new projects with existing and new partners. If you would like to be a part of our story, let’s talk!
