The chair, called “Earl”, (also designed by Daniel Rous) focuses on user comfort, with a back that elegantly wraps around, and sweeps effortlessly into the back legs. “Earl” is made entirely from beech with a color finish that complements the tonal range of tea visible through the cafe.

The interventions, titled ‘Ruup’, span three meters in diameter, offering those seated and lying within ample space for reading or resting. Additionally, the conical shapes offer potential shelter for a wanderer or modest hiker to spend the night, as well as provide a platform for outdoor classrooms, small-scale cultural events and concerts.

Each contains a hand-made model of a insect connected to a short wire and a ring of LEDs around the top. Using sensors to detect visitors walking past or between the bulbs, the lights turn on and the artificial bugs buzz around inside in response to movement.

Each stone is painted a different fluorescent hue, with the sculptures’ titles minimally delineated by their component colors. The works appear to seemingly defy gravity in their teetering formations, but are simultaneously embedded down into their concrete plinths.

A rectangular changing room features wooden floors and two rows of black lockers on either side of the space, connected by overarching neon strips. Large format type on the glass entrance doors conveys Nike’s “Don’t dream of it. Train for it” philosophy.

These boundaries are the result of thousands of lightweight balls, or “seeds,” in motion on a fabric mesh ceiling. The “seeds” are made of PET plastic and are recycled content from plastic water bottles.

Messner Mountain Museum by Zaha Hadid Architects, South Tyrol – Italy

The museum is set within the rock of the mountain’s peak, in order to create a very particular visitor experience where visitors descend into the mountain’s dark interior to then exit onto a six-meter terrace hanging over the valley, offering spectacular views of the Dolomites and other surrounding mountains.
