Pleased To Meet You bar and restaurant by Collective Design, Newcastle – UK

The design is made up of a number of textures, tones, shadows and light. Rustic original brick, rivet steel and rich hard wood floors are the foundations of the design. This paves the way for soft leathers, warm polished copper tones, gleaming surfaces of marble and raw exposed timbers brimming with character.

A wooden framework fits around the bar and extends along the walls, doubling as shelving and a coat rack. It also creates an overhead canopy that resembles a series of rafters, which lowers the ceiling height on that side and makes the space feel more intimate.

One of the main interior features is the reclaimed scaffolding structure within the ceiling of the arches displaying Topolski’s artwork – though an ideal solution for showcasing such huge pieces of art work in arch spaces, they also reflect the artist’s down to earth creative approach.

For the saloon we chose sepia tones, desaturated colors and elements that create a retro chic atmosphere. Without doubt, the handmade hot air balloons that float in penumbra, are the key element of this space.

Simple materials were used in that project: bricks, paving tiles, white wall ceramic tiles, painted metal, oak wood. Bricks were bought from the dismantling of an old apartment building in the heart of the city. Natural stone on the floor is cut in the shape of hexagons.

The look and feel of the Visitor Centre and Unicorn Suite introduces the industrial nature of the active brewery with its exposed steelwork and timber floor. Within both spaces, natural materials such as European oak and copper were used to create a warm and welcoming environment to reflect the brewing heritage of the brand.

In the development of this brand we wanted to avoid the obvious cliché’s and create a space that reflected the culture, without becoming a pastiche. We use very bold, hand painted graphics, on floors and walls, to set the energy levels high.
