Architects from mode:lina™studio were commissioned to design an interior arrangement of Bidfood Farutex Culinary Academy. The academy was specially designed not only for presentations, culinary or sommelier workshops purposes but also for meetings and training courses among bigger number of people – the auditorium can holdover 40 persons!
Local architects Rica Studio designed the two-storey Madrid flagship of the English for Fun linguistic school, aiming to booster the schoolchildren’s creativity, imaginations and stimulate all five senses. The centre uses the Reggio Emilia approach to teaching children a foreign language, a method that combines self-guided play, visual learning and the built environment.
16 classrooms and 9 theme specific rooms as well as an entertaining area for after school activities provide spaces for 600 students. The building itself is constructed with concrete and wood elements. The facade of the main floor is covered with the famous local stone, the two upper floors impress with a wood facade.
Piramide Boerhaave Primary school is part of a characteristic green strip in the Schalkwijk district of Haarlem. The main block was built as a Primary school in 1964, and a gym and kindergarten were added in 1967. With its efficient floor plan and partly standardized construction the school was the precursor to a series of patio schools built in the Netherlands in the 1960s.
The expression of raw materials – colorless varnished wood, polished concrete floor et galvanized railings, the care giver to their implementation as well as the visibility of the structure and of the technical bodies express the particular attention to the raw material, the one that was already there, the one used to build and which is too often hidden from public view. The ceiling is like a veil that shows what is going on behind the scenes.
The original infrastructure includes in-slab electrical and HVAC systems as well as limited ceiling heights, 8’-3” to the bottom of the structure, challenging the team to be creative and work in tandem with the MEPFP engineers. The design team worked to highlight Northeastern’s energy and commitment to experiential learning through materiality, transparency, and collaboration.
