COMET Ping Pong pizza restaurant, bar by Core Architecture, Washington, DC

Steel-framed tables and booths with reclaimed wood seats are fixed along the perimeter walls, with a 24-seat communal table placed through the central space. A grid filled with acrylic panels conceals the kitchen where the sculptural pizza oven anchors the end of the bar.

YNL design designed the brand identity of People Eleven that specializes in Philadelphia cheese steaks. The overall concept used for the design was ‘American Vintage’. This concept was applied to not just the graphic designs, but also to the restaurant’s exterior signage and interior elements such as the fence.

From the inside of the restaurant, looking through the blue glass, the fish market takes the colors of the sea. All the elements present want to reppresent the underwater world, which includes the refined lamps, that are conceptual networks with crystals, which also have stylized fish, drawn by the studio and printed on wallpaper which was then applied on the walls.

The site itself is devoid of any sunlight, openings, or views to the exterior. It could feel claustrophobic so we spun this by re-directing your attention inward and holding it captive through the various design elements. We addressed this first and foremost with a lighting strategy with different mood settings for lunchtime and evening diners.
