The main objective of the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in all of its projects is that most of the furniture, lighting and other essential elements shall promote Norwegian design. The concept was designed around preserving the building’s character and let the furniture and lighting be a contrast to emphasize the two different worlds that come together here.

Daylight only enters the space through front and back windows. The depth of each floor is 30 meters. This made me decide to place all the elements freely in the space and to use glass walls for the meeting rooms and conference room so that the daylight can penetrate further into each floor and the co-workers will not experience a ‘locked-in’ feeling.

An indoor garden with native and adaptive plants will filter the office air and create a connection with nature. The garden will be watered and maintained by employees. In addition to the interior garden, a vegetable garden will be grown in the office’s “backyard,” which faces a residential development.

It was possible to make corridors almost straight, and to separate some conference «cells» for 2-3 employees by using inclined oblique-angled designs.

We tried to create a friendly relationship with the user. The small vegetation organizes the access. Its materiality, temperature, resonance … even the opening speed of the automatic doors, make the user subtly feel that he has entered into an attenuated area.
