Strategic use of inexpensive finishes such as decorative wallcovering, colorful paint, exposed concrete floors and graphics helped to create a more playful environment. A jogging track was also created around the building’s core as the main circulation path to promote health and wellness, an important element to the company’s philosophy.

Existing materials like limestone walls and concrete posts, beams and ceilings have been preserved and cleaned. 50% of the closed glass nave has been opened up. In order to exhibit the unique constructions of the building, there is a small atrium between the ground floor and the main floor, from where a whole constructive post can be seen from top to bottom.

Although one building, the 10-story hospital functions as three medical specialty centers— housing inpatient services for high-risk obstetrics and neonatal care, cancer care and advanced surgical care. The building’s overall curvilinear form was driven by the design of the patient units, but also by advanced modeling to capitalize on views, maximize daylight and minimize solar gain and glare.

The aesthetic is clean, sophisticated, and inviting. The richness of natural walnut, upholstered fabrics, and sparkling stainless steel transitions come to life when basked in the abundant natural light. Understated accent colors—comfortable upholstered chairs in soft yellow or off-white, a pattern of muted blue and earth tones for banquettes—are carefully placed to support, but not overwhelm, the expression of wood and stone.
