Situated right in the middle, in between four massive columns, is a circular bar marked by backlit onyx panels and situated right below a suspended brushstroke sculpture inspired by calligraphy, and which serves as a focal point of the space.

The polycarbonate partition functionally divides the space into a visitor area and an open kitchen space. Cafe has two entrances: from the street and from the store, being thus a passageway. Architects moved street entrance, and inner entry was expanded for the distribution of flows of people and maximum amount of seats near the windows.

The bespoke Hakwood herringbone pattern graces the floor of the lobby and is mirrored along the ceiling, embracing the bar between the dynamic patterned wooden finishes. A living green wall with tropical plants connects the entrance to the patio in the rear, blurring the distinction between the inside and outside spaces.

Hilton stand at Tourism Indaba 2017 by Whaam Concepts, Durban – South Africa

Whaam brought this through by designing two select meeting areas into the stand for exclusive engagement. We translated the grandness of a typical Hilton lobby area by introducing a welcome desk contrasted against elevated walls and a suspended halo bulkhead to emphasise the new brand identity.

The visual design direction reflects Xoom’s position in the marketplace: established, global, yet accessible. Two juxtaposed material palettes express the space’s natural and contemporary style. Inspired by international craft, the use of olive ash veneer, wool felt, and woven area rugs bring a sense of warmth to the public areas.
