Grand Hyatt Dalian – The Smoke House by NAO Taniyama & Associates, Dalian – China

Scaffoldings which are commonly used in China are scattered across the space as it flows out to the exterior allowing an overwhelming view from the beach whilst representing the rapid growth of Asia. The Smoke House which can be viewed as construction site will entice various guests to grill their own food creating sounds and smell in this chaotic space.

By having now one level store, we could design a pharmacy open to the consumer, with a façade that can be seen from across the street. On the same direction we positioned the signing, simple and clear it gives it’s stigma to the pharmacy and makes its presence felt on the local market.

We wanted to communicate to the customers that the desserts themselves are a piece of art. We identified a colour scheme where purple is the dominant colour and golden/golden yellow is the secondary based on physical and digital applications. The golden yellow would primarily be used for the logo and in cases of highlight elements.

Using the space of 90 m2 inside a historic tenement house in the district of Jeżyce, Poznań, the architects of the mode:lina™ studio designed a complex of delicatessen, café and space for sommelier workshops. Inspired by the atmosphere and aesthetics of ancient Italian architecture, the designers opted for its most traditional materials, grey stone and natural wood.

The back wall is probably the main eye-catcher in the space, represented by welly boots and watering cans in display. The illustrations and wallpapers in the main room and toilettes were beautifully illustrated by Spanish illustrator Ana de Lima.

Adrià’s vision began to take shape once he met with RCR Arquitectes, who created a large watercolor drawing that outlined the design concept. Working alongside architect Pau Llimona, the team decided to bring the project to life using Neolith, a material developed by TheSize.

A pantry inspired by the traditional street kiosks, curved bar counter with wooden overhang inspired by the Ferry terminal, custom-designed sofas are a nod to the Star Ferry’s signature seating, bespoke lighting further evokes Hong Kong’s familiar street signage, trams and florescent lights.

This part, we needed to represent the warm welcome from us to the clients and others who come to our home. In addition, the ball lamps area is spotted and people are invited to involve with this area as if hypnotised by cluster of stars in the universe.

Kaleidoscopic Ivy installation by Nendo, Tokyo – Japan

For the exhibition, the school’s headteacher Akane Teshigahara commissioned Nendo to create a site-specific installation that would span the first floor of Tokyo’s Sogetsu Plaza, where the school is based. This space was designed as a stone garden by landscape architect and artist Isamu Noguchi, and is dominated by grey-toned rock that has been carved into different surfaces.

The resin veil inspired by the traditional bamboo work and created by the local craftsmen will protrude from the floor to the ceiling to envelop the space and as it acts as a shade for days with strong sunlight, like a sail receiving the breeze from the sea, and a cocoon to wrap the guests gently at night.

Together with Meissl Architects they reached the target of presenting the best boardrooms in town and further the Bar BBC – Boutique Convention Center. The new rooms are prosperously used for congresses, incentive, events and parties since they are perfectly customizable.

Much like ancient Maya temples, the modular structure is overgrown with tropical plants. Concrete elements combined with plants create a raw yet refined look, reminding of an urban landscape.

Timber supports elevate the cafe and exhibition above the rocky landscape, while the service building hangs from the side of a stone wall. The timber framework extends up the black outer walls to raise a mono-pitched corrugated zinc roof above each of the blocks.

Above this space, we placed the symbolic with imported shining crystal chandelier to enhance our concept of the star and bring fabulous lighting to the property. Along the corridor, we intentionally place lighting in different size and difference direction to mimic the star in the sky.

ELEVENPARIS store by Agence Costa, Paris – France

The floor is made of two-colored poured concrete (copper-colored and beige), highlighting the different areas of the store. The presence of logos inside the store has been minimized in favor of discrete reminders within the architecture and the furniture design themselves.

Lobby in hotel is designed elegantly by using simple lines and mass. On the other hand, lobby in resort is designed lively with curves. The resort is connected to Hyugos Buffet and bakery ‘Pane cucina’.

A wide glulam roofing delimits the area devoted to commercial activities. On a structural level, the free-standing roof slab is totally independent from the underlying sale space. It defines a function without compelling its developments and dynamics, even the architectural ones.
