Street cinema by Omri Revesz, Venice – Italy

The pavilion is comprised of a collapsible modular wooden structure, held together by metal elements inspired by the logic of Russian constructivism. The structure expands and adjusts to the activity being held in the pavilion, be it a conference, screening, artistic performance or spontaneous stop.

When it is time, each participant in the production enters a small changing space, highlighted by an eerie number projected from a pinhole aperture on to the dark corridor floor. Here in a space reminiscent of a Lynch production set complete with heavy velvet curtains, they are provided with a script and transform into character.

The facade is broken down into into a dozen vertical strips, like ribbons. Each strip supports several facets, alternately orientated upwards or downwards, as if folded. In the central area, these great pleats are made of glass and covered in regularly spaced LED modules, forming a large, animated grid.

The basic tone of the entire cinema hall is set in white. In the height of 9 meters, two huge white rings revolve around the central columns in an interlocking, slanting and hovering style. These rings are up to 5m and 15m in diameter, which sizes are overwhelmingly beyond people’s perception. The smooth connection between the ceiling and columns attains a hazy sort of adjoining definition. Whereas the white aluminum mesh around the space creates a vague visual experience.
