Selfridges Windows: Hit Songs in 3D

May 10th, 2011

To mark the beginning of the summer festival season, Selfridges have collaborated with ten current musicians and asked them to visualise their hit songs in 3 dimensions. It’s amazing to what lengths some of the artists have gone. My favourite is probably the Empire of the Sun – window, because I love their song so much. Knowing the songs is a key to understanding what the windows are all about, hence I’m putting links up so you can listen to the songs.

Bergdorf Goodman in April

April 26th, 2011

On the 5th Avenue side the windows had a street/pop art kind of style painted with airbrush stencils. Knoth’s photograph presents a dark mood with the reflection of the building and American flag at the top left corner of the picture. It’s eery how the building seems to fade away revealing the diamonds and the mannequin well centered within the motif.

Colour-Block Brights, London

April 22nd, 2011

Bright, block colour is a major fashion trend this summer. Retailers are utilising on this trend to grab our attention. The stores have not just presenting their bright fashion in the windows, it’s in the window schemes themselves. Bright stock against bright background but also combined with white. Although this trend is mostly about mixing different block coloured together – I have thrown in some bright print windows as well.

Selfridges spring windows

April 22nd, 2011

Much publicity for Selfridges for their new windows featuring 20 Bright Young Things, new designers but quite honestly I thought they were a bit of a mess and I much preferred the windows on the Duke St side of the store telling the real Spring story of solid block colour in a pure and graphic style.

NY Holiday Windows: Bergdorf Goodman

April 18th, 2011

If you took the time to read about the new book coming out called “Windows at Bergdorf Goodman” you may already know that I am a little biased towards the designs of David Hoey, the Senior Director of Visual Presentation at Bergdorf Goodman.

Display 1

March 21st, 2011

Gone but never forgotten!! From the files of yesteryears we recall these swim suit windows that were especially admired—and talked about. Sure! Some of the bathing suits may be dated but the presentation concepts are still valid and ready to be adapted to new uses with newer merchandise in today’s windows.
