Both the form and the idea of a gateway leading into Casa Alitalia are reflected in the concept of a large doorway leading into an italian building, a passage that takes guest from the chaotic airport environment, into a calm, inviting, sophisticated space.

The first idea was to “recreate” the feeling of being in a pasture; through a play of light and shadows generated by a space which envelopes the visitor. The abstraction of this idea is finally embodied in a structural skin of wooden slats, which define the space while giving it a cozy feeling.

The capsule display shelf reflected a jet-set structure of display which is especially appropriate for airport store; in which the glassy shelf shown a strikingly beautiful sparkles shinning products from above that are waiting to be discovered by visitors.

Focus points are info screens integrated into gondolas, whose black lacquered surfaces place the range of products in the foreground. The ceiling, designed by Umdasch Shopfitting, functions as an intuitive orientation system for visitors.

As always, the food is the most important part of a Jamie’s Italian restaurant, it was key to find exciting ways to display the food offers and entice travellers in. We created focal points within the three zones; the rustic grab-and-go counter in the bakery, the more refined antipasti bar in the restaurant, and nostalgia inspired ‘British pub carvery’ featured in the bar.
