Exposed whitewashed bricks have been paired with recycled and newly lacquered rimu timber, covering both the floor and two walls. The furnishings comprise of beautifully crafted metal cabinets and shelving, a sales desk, and last but not least, Aesop’s prerequisite shop attribute, a concrete sink embedded in a metal framework.

Careful consideration was given to the acoustics, knowing that floor shared two common atriums and had very few walls. Quilted fabric wraps the partition behind reception and hanging baffles visually lead people through the space whilst providing a secondary sound absorber.

Spread across two floors, the space is grounded in functionality and connectivity rather than hierarchies and traditional thinking. A key feature of the design is the stunning spiral staircase which was introduced to enable interaction between business units and create one collaborative team.

A key design feature of the new store is a seamless product display wall, based on the convex shape of an eye. With dimmers and programmable LED lights in the display, the wall can be transformed to create various moods and showcase eyewear 24/7. This unique solution was recently announced as a finalist of the coveted Interior Craftsmanship Award.

The design approach was distinctly different to the typically ‘pink, rather girly’ approach that many competitors had adopted. Instead RCG designed a store that created a modern, minimalist environment, with an indulgent palette designed to be highly man-friendly.

To reflect Levi’s classic American style and effortless ‘cool’, we selected materials such as raw wood, steel, canvas, rope and exposed brick. We recycled existing hang bar fixtures, created shelving units made from construction plywood and designed counters and display tables made from timber pallets. And the walls were painted in Levi’s signature red.
