Following last year’s launch of a new Balenciaga boutique in Los Angeles and a very recent much-publicized revamp of its flagship store on rue St.-Honoré in Paris, a shop-in-shop has been added at Matsuya’s prestigious Ginza flagship.

Hiruki studio has developed a museography and illustration project that aims to encourage the viewer to observe the filigree work of the lace and feel the textures, playing with it throughout the space, combining opacity and transparency, as the master of lace did in his creations.

Although there’s a certain similarity in the aesthetic of the two stores, this one has a far more monumental feel due to its construction – a soaring skylight with a curving spine at the back of the store connects the triple height ceiling to the basement section – and the lavish use of green Italian marble.
