TYO Japanese restaurant by Studio Yaron Tal, Tel Aviv – Israel

Yaron Tal’s design of the internal space is surprising with unconventional breaks in the standard square space of the building which creates a functional asymmetry that divides the two spaces, a heightened space for sitting, and an amorphous lower space that is used as an eating bar with autonomous conversations corners.

This facade is constructed rectilinearly, though the plasterer left some strokes when he mortared the wall instead of mortaring evenly. This technique and using mortar with sumi could effect relaxing atmosphere. Moreover, the wall of facade is connecting to inside’s wall and bench.

With the inspiration coming from Peru’s biodiversity, with a variety of food sourced from land and sea, the overall style is simple with emphasis on geometry and materials of the earth’s natural elements. The ground floor has an almost monastic approach with geometric details and feature lighting.

N Bar & Grill by Sumessh Menon + Associates, Mumbai – India

The division between the lounge and fine dining is treated with different types of glass-coloured, stained, blown, textured, inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright. It adds an element of interest to both the spaces. Mauve velvet seating suffices the lack of variety in colour at the restaurant and is an important player in setting apart the language of the lounge.

Brooks Brothers fashion boutique by Stefano Tordiglione Design, Hong Kong

Tradition continues elsewhere in the boutique with a mosaic floor handmade in Italy adapted and redesigned from a classic New York pavement pattern. A Shirt Wall displays one of the brand’s signature products in a skeletal backless unit, so that the array of shirts appear to be floating.

The space is divided in two levels connected by a huge staircase made of solid brick, proof of the original construction of the building. The access is delimited by a thick wooden door that
connects the restaurant with the outside, highlighting the open personality of the ground floor.

The Hihou design uses simple ideas to achieve a distinctive Japanese atmosphere. The use of sliding screens, feature wall and planter boxes achieves an effective multipurpose use of the space. The sliding screens enable the venue to interchange between a bright and fresh atmosphere, to dark and moody, by sliding into different positions.
