Schulich School of Engineering Redevelopment and Expansion by Diamond Schmitt Architects + Gibbs Gage Architects, Calgary – Canada

Students congregate in the light-filled space on brightly coloured, X- and O-shaped seating designed by Dutch firm Feek. The atrium floor drops away in an amphitheatre-type setting to improve connection with the basement, which both extends daylight into the core and provides access to a garden.

Upon entering the corporate headquarters, a reception or welcome desk greets guests and employees. Early in the design process it was determined that a metal screen with the corporate logo die cut in a pattern would become a branded element in key areas.

These zones of colour are contrasted by a calmer, more neutral palette in the areas dedicated to concentrated work. Alternate work settings, training and social gatherings are further supported by a shared coffee bar lounge space and meeting room facility.
