Aesop store by Tacklebox, San Francisco – California

Copper was chosen in reference to the stills used to produce whiskey at the A P Hotaling warehouse – once the West Coast’s largest whiskey repository – in which the store is located. Two of these are wash basins, which feature in most Aesop stores to allow customers to test the different skin products.

We imported a retail look to energise the Kendo team, who’d been crammed into tiny offices that didn’t suit either their needs or the company vibe,” said the designers. The offices occupy a full upper floor of high-rise building in Downtown San Francisco. After exiting the elevators, the hall opens onto a reception and show area to one side.

The panels are affixed to walls and ceilings. In the lobby areas, they extend beyond the front door to form dramatic exterior canopies. White LEDs shine through holes in the metal panels. The patterning was inspired by raindrops in one building and a network of highways in the other.

We began by dividing the loft into four distinct sections—a private office, a showroom, a lounge and a custom appointment area—ensuring that each space flowed from one to the other. We then designed and fabricated a bespoke set of furniture, fixtures, lighting and decorative elements to help showcase Grace’s jewelry in a truly one-of-a-kind environment.

The rooms and suites come in four categories, all flaunting a whitewashed aesthetic with homey accents, such as artwork, specific furnishings and a carpet. The setting is completed with modern amenities you’d expect from a place like this, including complimentary wifi, an ihome dicking station and a flatscreen tv.

Designed as the brand’s first stand-alone home, the office is centered around a richly velveted reception area complete with brightly illuminated central tableau; a cafe whose central table mirrors that tableau; and incredible views overlooking bustling downtown San Francisco.

The palette is repeated in each office to establish a connectedness between locations. Trend Micro takes pride in establishing a well-built environment with materials that connect to their rich heritage.

An outdoor courtyard has a raised-bed garden, planted with vegetables and flowers that promote healthy nutrition and a biophilic impact. The office also facilitates a robust recycling and composting program. There is a living green wall in the central open lounge area bringing the outside in.

Diners are greeted with 24-stools surrounding a U-shaped bar constructed with bleached eucalyptus wood; a team of chefs operate from behind the counter with a sculptural bleached rustic white oak “roof” looming overhead with inset lighting illuminating the counter.
