The New College House frames a critical gateway to Penn’s urban campus, preserving vital green space and welcoming visitors via a public ‘lifted lawn.’ Bohlin Cywinski Jackson was challenged to engage a vibrant college community into the campus and the city on all four sides of the building, while also securing the College House by a single point of entry.

Motel One Campus Restaurant by Ippolito Fleitz Group, Munich – Germany

The Campus Restaurant caters to three different user groups: It is designed as an attractive restaurant and bar location for hotel guests and visitors, while also serving as a canteen for staff. The restaurant extends upwards over two storeys. The entrance from the lobby is set within a large glass wall, which stretches from floor to ceiling and makes an inviting gesture.

GLS German Language School’s Campus & Office by CPM Architecten, Berlin – Germany

The language school’s needs included several administration offices as well as a large variety of seminar rooms and small meeting rooms. The extremely strong demands of the listed building’s authorities were an additional challenge in the creation of a modern work environment.

Organized around a grand café in the central atrium there are several restaurant “pockets”. These pockets with different hospitality concepts each have their unique style and offer splendid views of the student activity in the preparation kitchens. A new canopy over the entrance accentuates the view into the grand café depot.

CAMPUS was founded in 1972 as a subbrand of Marc O´Polo by the two Swedes Rolf Lind and Göte Huss and the American Jerry O´Sheets. It was their vision to predominatly use natural materials. In the same year the legendary CAMPUS Sweatshirts with logoprint was born – not later than in the 80s they gained cult status.

The design embraces both the history of the Navy Yard and Urban Outfitters’ modern culture by layering old and new.
