The site itself is devoid of any sunlight, openings, or views to the exterior. It could feel claustrophobic so we spun this by re-directing your attention inward and holding it captive through the various design elements. We addressed this first and foremost with a lighting strategy with different mood settings for lunchtime and evening diners.

For the centerpiece of the venue, we created a feature wall with laser cut black and colored wood veneer tree and bird shapes. For lighting we chose a metal chandelier reminiscent of kerosene lamps, evoking memories of camping in the woods.

The shop is divided into the movie bookshop and information center, the design concept with the trace of cinema is applied into these spaces. Visitors’ sight would be drawn to the random-like located joinery pieces, which has made with the form just like stacked bookshelves.

Stepping slightly down from the rustic street-scape, diners are greeted with an air of sophistication created by bronze-inlayed floor signage and a seafood bar lined with metal dental moldings. Looking beyond, a refined space composed of beige walls, marble mosaics, ceiling moldings and walnut furniture is revealed.

A mirror stainless steel ceiling was also adopted for the purpose of expanding the ceiling height. The reflective ceiling was specially laser cut in a pattern that was inspired by underwater movements and features.

Black stainless steel represents the feeling of boldness and mechanism. Marble floors are incorporated at the entrance to enhance the feeling of luxury. The store’s door handles take inspiration from McIntosh’s signature machine, offering a clear brand identity upon entrance.

The design concept is about using the cheapest and the most primitive materials to create a European styled store. The red bricks forming the bright exterior are overlaid with a brushed white finish along with a sprayed green vignette, which is a reflection of the fresh produce available in store.
