New York Sweets flagship store by Minas Kosmidis, Nicosia – Cyprus

The architects took inspiration from the iconic grid of Manhattan’s streets, designing the store as a series of rectangular volumes. These begin at the building’s façade, where horizontal and vertical metallic tubes form a grid, and continue within to the pastries in the display tables, arranged like colourful buildings in an aerial view of New York.

Having been completed in February 2017, the pared-back, urban influences are apparent from the curbside as the shop’s façade features a metal “grid” which, in conjunction with the lighting scheme, is meant to reference the entrance canopies of NYC’s grand, landmark buildings.

Como Restaurant is located on the coast of the port city of Limassol, Cyprus. The challenge that stands before us as planners had to connect inside the space the values of the unique position by being a overlooking the harbor, while dealing with creating an intimate space in the existing structure.

It was really challenging for us to manage the creation of a new concept without distorting the existing energy of the space. My main concept was to create a multilevel plan using the pictures of a city as a basic model. Where ever you stand in the studio, you get the feeling that you are watching the city through a large window.

The final idea was to use the above script as a manual to create a neutral hall by using plain forms with non standard shapes and to develop those forms with a low cost material like chipboard!

The central idea was the creation of a large product display, which extends throughout the whole length and height of the space. Τhe curved continuous shape of the display bench transforms itself into the staircase and mezzanine railings unifying the lower with the upper level.

When a retail store takes on a cult name such as Black Celebration, you know it is going to be swish kind of affair. Although at first sight, it portrays a hard to understand concept, it does however, manage to portray how a little country like Cyprus has an enduring love of fashion.
