Occhio Store CGN by einszu33, Cologne – Germany

The soft tone of large oak floorboards laid in a large-scale herringbone pattern goes perfectly with the rough surface of the internal walls treated with a fine-grained, mineral based plaster. The protagonists of the showroom are certainly the Occhio products themselves, displayed on so-called „space-stations“ – representing the Occhio universe.

The guests find themselves midst of a Black Forest setting, with the soothing sounds of rushing water and intermittent chirping of woodland birds. The air is cool and misty, the room dark with streaks of light cutting through tall trees, smells of rich soil and wood wrap you; a surreal forest that feels a thousand miles away.

Local design studio einszu33 soberly mixed materials and untamed textures to generate a simultaneous feeling of balance and tension: a rough concrete ceiling and screed floor find their counterpoint in polished, pale surfaces, brass floor inlays and fixtures, upholstered wooden cabinets and a textile wall in a blushing hue.

Within the rough concrete façade, the interior features green- and grey-hued walls lined with shelving composed of powder-coated metal and translucent glass tiles, reflective of the industrial uniformity that characterised Leipzig when Germany’s East and West were demarcated.

A suspended storage system, made partially from repurposed wood and replete with built-in sink, covers all walls, and intentionally contrasts with a supersleek metal sales counter that’s placed in the middle of the store, and a vintage chandelier by Carlo Scarpa dangling from the ceiling.
