New York Sweets flagship store by Minas Kosmidis, Nicosia – Cyprus

The architects took inspiration from the iconic grid of Manhattan’s streets, designing the store as a series of rectangular volumes. These begin at the building’s façade, where horizontal and vertical metallic tubes form a grid, and continue within to the pastries in the display tables, arranged like colourful buildings in an aerial view of New York.

“White Forest” installation at Hills Avenue flagship store by Tokujin Yoshioka, Tokyo – Japan

Designed by Tokujin Yoshioka, the retail installation expresses the lightness of Hills Avenue’s shoes – developed using proprietary technology – throughout the store and beyond. Floor-to-ceiling windows on both floors of the 300-sq-m space allow plenty of eyeballs to pop at Yoshioka’s White Forest. The shoes float and fly in the forest of 700 thin white metal rods, set free from the laws of gravity.

KAOS flagship store by Fabio Caselli Design, Florence – Italy

KAOS is accompanied by contemporary materials, such as black varnished iron for the slim and elegant columns and the 1950’s inspired tables, transparent crystals, white varnished retro glass, and finally the slightly unfinished “warm” wood used for all supporting parts.

Rich textures mimic the exotic materials used in the sandals, highlighting the luxury products which are made in Italy from ostrich, crocodile and snakeskin. Lustrous metallic finishes further contribute to the opulent setting, whilst timeless patterns embellish the store & offset the high-end sandals to perfection.

A dramatic stair invites customers to a second floor of gathering spaces, teller desks, private consulting areas and offices. Throughout the space are designs that tie in the brand message including the wood-slat signage with incorporated LED strips that hang above the ground floor community bar and charging station.

George Spencer Designs flagship showroom by Boundary Space, London – UK

These industrial elements contrast with the soft furnishings and fabrics, showcasing the latter to great effect. We introduced a curved rail of full-length hanging around the perimeter of the showroom to create a ‘wall’ of fabric display, and to soften the cavernous space, giving a more domestic and cosy feel.

The use of conventional interior finishes, such as drywall, was purposefully minimized, in keeping with the “gear garage” aesthetic. The architecture and material palette is simple, raw, and utilitarian; the walls are lined with exposed plywood and concrete backer board.

The traditional gaucho poncho with its woven geometric pattern inspires the spatial elements that are formed from diamond and zigzag shapes and give the Corporate Architecture its high recognition value. It can be found in the floor tiles that were specially designed for Maredo, in the wallpaper on the walls, in the structure of the counter fronts and in the open, coffered wood ceiling.

Knitted yarn inspired the curving, rope shopfront and suspended display cones. The rough textured floor references timber wool sheds and steel frames that feature prominently throughout the store are a reminder of tanneries, machine rooms and sewing floors.

The rhythm of rectangular modules is formed by an orthogonal metal structure, while the texture of the façade is a screen inspired by a reinterpretation of the traditional wrought iron railings of Polanco. The screen generates a series of rectangular niches that are randomly repeated within the orthogonal mesh.

The store is made in an existing bungalow in a quaint area in the city of Pune, India instead of opting for a standard retail format on a high street. The aim was to seamlessly blend the retail aspects into a home environment to create a comfortable and positive space that the seniors feel comfortable walking into.

The concept for the entrance installation has been designed as a timeless flexible tool for giving the different frequently collections attractive stages throughout the year. Before ZARA selected the beautiful 4.000 sqm space from the thirties and converted it into the ZARA Flagship store in Milan, the building hosted a theatre and later the “Astra” Cinema for many years.
