The overall collective palette is composed of matte and industrial materials. Steel mesh racks were chosen to add a sense of depth to the space as well as providing an adaptable solution. Urethane rubber and MDF boards were chosen to match the color of the shoe boxes, while galvanized steel and dyed cork were chosen to reflect the concrete floor.

In this project, we tried to pursue deeper essence and more possibilities of the brand, deciphering the store’s unique location. The store is located right beside the famous sightseeing spot, Asakusa. The façade is covered by straight line copper panels.

A roofed-patio with restroom was placed on the outside where markets and workshops can take place to promote the porcelain. Remnants of the porcelain artistry can be seen throughout the structure.

More than a year later, “Tsumiki” celebrates its US launch by hosting an exhibition of small-scale interpretations by New-York based artists Aranda Lasch, Sonia Rentsch, and Nanse Kawashima. As part of the show, Kuma is also presenting his own special art installation using the “Tsumiki” triangles.

The retail space expresses the theme of a luxury resort, boasting a warm atmosphere thanks to the use of natural materials — primarily wood — used throughout. The French-born, Japan-based creative turned to his previous work on the waterfront CABaN café, lounge and terrace, by employing the palettes he used in that build to construct the supporting columns found throughout the lifestyle shop.

Taking 1968’s movie “2001: A Space Odyssey” for design concept, the entrance “tunnel” is a reinterpretation of a spaceship. With the keyword “threshold” in mind, this spaceship would be a non-solid and tangible space intended to be a crossing gate for people coming from many different places.

Forest of Numbers installation by Emmanuelle Moureaux, Tokyo – Japan

More than 60,000 pieces of suspended numeral figures from 0 to 9 were regularly aligned in three dimensional grids. A section was removed, created a path that cut through the installation, invited visitors to wonder inside the colorful forest filled with numbers.
