New City Hall by Cnockaert Architecture, Kortrijk – Netherlands

As architects our task was to create a “front desk” at the entrance of the Leiestraat with some minor adjustments in the public square. This includes removing the fast service desk, improving accessibility, introducing child-friendly waiting areas and optimizing counters.

The brick ceiling and cast-iron columns are restored nods to the industrial past of the building, while the dark timber wall paneling, light oak floors and soft hues of fabrics and furnishings add a comfortable feel.

The 12 m rack houses the champagnes and lockers. Per locker, clients can safely store up to 30 bottles, using their own, personal key. These lockers can be reached via a transparent gangway at a height of 3.5 m. In the Bordeaux area, 2 pop-up stores have been installed, made out of perforated metal, creating an airy space which appeals to each customer.

Drukta and Formail offices by FIVE AM, Kortrijk – Belgium

At the end of 2012, printing office Drukta and mailing company Formail moved into their new building. Not a new build, but a former textile company’s warehouse, spanning 4.000 sqm. For their office space, both companies were looking for a solution which needed to fit their needs and budget.

Visitors were met by a large boulder measuring 1.86 metres high held up by black cylindrical pillars. On appearance, the installation appeared empty, however upon entering the space covered by this looming monolithic structure and looking upwards, large circular cut outs of varying diameter were revealed.
