From The Study, the entrance is a bookshelf but not just an ordinary residential book shelf yet one that has transformed itself to art. This is not a dining room decorated with art yet a dining space inside an art.

Dominique Bouchet’s history are randomly displayed on the wall. A view to the Basement 2 dining room from the window can be seen. In contrast with the waiting lounge, the dining area is filled with light enabling guests to forget that they are in basement 2 with no natural light.

For this project, our intention was to revisit and revamp the definition of allure and “richness” of one’s lifestyle whilst taking into account the history of this property. If the word “global” is pursued, we end up with the word “locality”.

Grand Hyatt Dalian – The Smoke House by NAO Taniyama & Associates, Dalian – China

Scaffoldings which are commonly used in China are scattered across the space as it flows out to the exterior allowing an overwhelming view from the beach whilst representing the rapid growth of Asia. The Smoke House which can be viewed as construction site will entice various guests to grill their own food creating sounds and smell in this chaotic space.

The resin veil inspired by the traditional bamboo work and created by the local craftsmen will protrude from the floor to the ceiling to envelop the space and as it acts as a shade for days with strong sunlight, like a sail receiving the breeze from the sea, and a cocoon to wrap the guests gently at night.

Hyatt brand has always strived for innovation reflecting the essence of each generation from an acute angle. A simple brief for this project was given by Hyatt – “Banquet with a Residential Feel”.
