Upon closer interaction with the millwork, hidden bespoke details are revealed to the user within these seating niches – small wood and bronze panels fold out to reveal charging ports, mirrors, and functional ledges where a cup of coffee or cell phone may be placed – unexpected details in support of the ordinary rituals of daily office life.

The design concept of the space is to emphasize the “sharing” idea of eating tapas, and the four distinct areas in the restaurant (tapas bar, dining room, dessert bar, and the secret bar) are meant to provide different flavors and ingredients for diners to “share”, like they do the food.

Capo Italian restaurant by Neri&Hu, Shanghai

The central spine of the restaurant is a long and linear Main Dining Hall framed by rows of slender wood columns, with side aisles that run parallel on both sides for circulation. With the Crudo Bar and Pizza Oven as bookends to the space, the custom designed tables and chairs are rigorously aligned in a pew-like formation along the length in between.

The Waterhouse Hotel at South Bund by Neri&Hu, Shanghai
