Much like ancient Maya temples, the modular structure is overgrown with tropical plants. Concrete elements combined with plants create a raw yet refined look, reminding of an urban landscape.

Rei Kawakubo / Comme des Garçons – Art of the in-between exhibition, New York City

On display are approximately 150 designs of Kawakubo’s womenswear line for Comme des Garçons, dating from the early 1980s to her most recent collection. As the title already hints, the exhibition focuses on the designer’s highly revolutionary experiments in in-betweenness – the space between boundaries in fashion that she so tirelessly challenges.

These garments – designed to appear as a “glistering bubble-like exoskeleton” – were made from transparent hexagonal laser-cut elements, that are connected with translucent flexible tubes.

Dumas, a French designer based in Amsterdam, found a cheap and cheerful method for displaying and decorating the Spanish brand’s shoes. Long wooden sticks were dipped in paint, then sliced and stapled to create shelves, frames, lighting stands and wall fixtures.
