The gorgeous colour palette gives the space a stylish bold moody feel because of the contrast with the black paint. In the main restaurant area, original features such as the stunning parquet floor have been lovingly preserved, creating a grand yet homely milieu. This is luxury turned up a notch. On the wall opposite the restaurant‚ is a surface covered along its full width with mirror panels.

Sometimes a solution is so obvious that it makes you wonder how on earth nobody came up with it before. Wasbar, a brand-new launderette/meeting place, is a fine example: while their dirty laundry spins, the people of Ghent can enjoy a drink with friends or get a new hairdo in one of the two hairdresser’s chairs.

Lolita cafe by Trije Arhitekti & Jagoda Jejcic, Ljubljana – Slovenia

Lolita is the latest fruit of long term collaboration between architectural office Trije arhitekti and Kaval Group. Occupying the former warehouse in the central historic palace in Ljubljana, Lolita gives a tribute to a tradition of cafes and the richness of living on the crossroad where one listens to a variety of »truths« while brewing one’s own at the same time.
