The stair structure is composed of two interlocking parts: a skeletal metal staircase and a sculptural wooden envelope. Together, they rise as an expressive tornado from the reception desk – conceived as the inception plateau and up to the first-floor mezzanine, fourteen meters above.

Pho Dau Bo vietnamese restaurant by Wieske Design, Ontario – Canada

Sleek modern chairs were chosen for the restaurant’s lounge area and were contrast by rustic wood coffee tables. The tables were a custom design by a local company, Time & Texture. They were finished in an oil rub to preserve the raw look of the wood, while allowing durability.

Levi Strauss pop-up boutique by RCG, Auckland – New Zealand

To reflect Levi’s classic American style and effortless ‘cool’, we selected materials such as raw wood, steel, canvas, rope and exposed brick. We recycled existing hang bar fixtures, created shelving units made from construction plywood and designed counters and display tables made from timber pallets. And the walls were painted in Levi’s signature red.

The extensive use of unfinished raw wood board creates a nice balance of function and whimsy, and brings a sense of the outdoors inside. Natural light streams into much of the space through glass partitions.

Mistral wine and champagne bar by Studio Arthur Casas, São Paulo

The space, in its raw form, was long, hollow, and had high ceilings. Casas built out the shop and used it’s length to his advantage. The architect deisnged a long hallway, where the walls are angled and lined with a high gloss white plastic, black mirror, and vertical slats of raw wood. Wine bottles are held in the wall by cut-out holes, just big enough for the bottle shaft.

Plank light fixture by Northern Lighting

Plank is a light fixture made out of pure, raw wood. Plank stems from a reference to the used and abused delivery pallet. Plentiful in function, this thin, long and simplistic pendant, wall and floor lamp series serves well to add directed or guided light to a defined space in a room.
