WA Cleanskin Cellars by Masterplanners Interiors, Perth – Australia

This exciting space was created with upcycled produce crates, recycled wooden pallets, cut form ply displays, and reused wine barrel on racks as the shop front. The design is simple and clean, the fitout complete with the highest attention to detail.

Aesop store by Tacklebox, Washington DC

The studio, led by designer Jeremy Barbour, again opted to recycle a high volume of material at this retail space in DC. The team took 30,000 southern pine sticks – traditionally used to dry leaves at Georgetown’s tobacco barns – and repurposed them as a wall covering. The individual rectangle-section rods were cut and arranged into an uneven mosaic across the eastern wall of the corner unit, creating a “dynamic rippled surface”.

The 5m-tall structure composed from 84 cardboard robots. The Robot’s eyes and decorated finial are echoing the key artwork from the intimate UOB Southeast Asia Gallery in the sixth floor to the gigantic public entrance space.

The nature of paper pulp has changed correspondingly from soft, light and thin to hard, tough and thick. Then the paper takes place of the wooden table top, with a soft form outside but solid inside.
